Black History Facts: Marian Anderson was the first African American singer to perform at the White House and New York City's Metropolitan Opera. She lived 1902 to 1993. She made a name for herself overseas in Germany, Scandinavia, Australia, etc. She started her American tour in New York City in 1935.
Missy is known for serving us amazing visuals. This music video shows a softer side of Missy Elliott. The song showcases her raw talent as a vocalist, which is often overlooked by previous song choices. I feel like this most recent EP really showcases her diversity as an artist. Every song has something very different. My favorites are "Why I Still Love You" and "DripDemeanor."
Lately, I've been studying singers from the early and mid 1900's. I've heard so much about her over the years. This documentary was so insightful! I love music history!
I can respect that Summer Walker is putting her mental health first. I think it's super important in today's time to acknowledge these things. I can only imagine the pressure a new artist goes through, especially one that is somewhat new to performing. I wish artist development was more prevalent these days, because the lack of it most definitely shows. I love Summer Walkers music, but I honestly wasn't impressed by her NPR performance a weeks ago. It shows that she is not comfortable in front of the crowd, and she wasn't really performing, but rather just singing through the songs. I hope she gets through this time, and learn to better deal with the stresses of being a performer. I'd love to see more from her.
This was a very special day! I premiered by Skyler's Vocal Healing Tea at Run Dat Back on September 3rd. The event was curated by So Soul Productions, and it took place at Apache Cafe. Prior to the event, I spent my day recording a demo of my original song, and teaching private music lessons.
